2026 North American Youth Championship Announced

Registration is now open for the 2026 North American Youth Chess Championship, which will be held November 10-17 2026 at the Av. Marina Nacional 399, Veronica Anzures, Miguel Hidalgo, 11300 Mexico City, Mexico.

The age categories for the 2026 North American Youth are Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18. Each category has an Open and Girls section. For this tournament, a player's age is his or her age as of Jan. 1, 2026. This event is open to players from Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Each section is a nine-round Swiss tournament with a time control of 90 minutes plus 30-second increment per move. Round one begins on November 11. There will also be a Rapid tournament on November 14 and a Blitz tournament on November 16.

Medals, as well as direct FIDE titles and norms, are awarded to the top three players in each section.

Registration

Please note: Registration must be completed directly with the event organizers, not with US Chess.

Players must register with the organizers by November 9. It is advised to register earlier, if possible, as there are bank wire transfer fees and processing time. The recommendation is to register by Friday, October 9, which is one month before the official registration cutoff. 

All U.S. participants are required to having the following:

  • A current US Chess membership, valid through the end of the tournament. (November 2026)
  • A U.S.A.-flagged FIDE ID. (If you do not currently have a FIDE ID, please complete our FIDE ID Request Form at https://forms.gle/fCCTis7WgtJEb2rv6)


Lodging/Hotel

The event will take place at the Hotel del Prado, Av. Marina Nacional 399, Verónica Anzúres, Miguel Hidalgo, 11300 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico.

Players and accompanying persons must stay at the official hotel or pay a penalty fee to the organizer at $200 per person. 

From the event regulations, Article 12:

Individuals over 12 years old are considered adults for accommodation purposes.

The rates include accommodation from November 10 to November 17, 2026, and three buffet-style meals per day, starting with lunch on November 10 and ending with breakfast on November 17.

Penalty for Not Staying at the Official Hotel or for Reservations Made Outside the Organizing Committee 

Participants, coaches, and accompanying persons who do not stay at the official hotel will be required to pay a penalty of $200.00 USD per person to the organization. Likewise, any reservation made directly with the hotel, through agencies, online platforms, or by any means other than the Organizing Committee shall be considered non-compliance, and the same penalty will apply per person (applicable to players, coaches, and accompanying persons).

All players are responsible for their own entry fees, lodging, food, transportation, and travel costs.


US Chess Official Representatives & Personal Right Players

In accordance with US Chess Scholastic Invitational Requirements, the US Chess Official Representative in each of the 12 sections will be the player with the highest rating per the February 2026 US Chess rating supplement who registers with the organizers by and notifies US Chess FIDE Events Manager, Brian Yang, Click here to show email address by Friday, August 21, 2026, 5:00 p.m. CDT. Please send a copy of your tournament registration receipt with the e-mail. (This includes your entry fee, accreditation, and accommodation fees) 

Players who won a Gold Medal in the previous (2025) North American Youth Championships shall have the personal right (non-transferable) to participate in the 2025 North American Youth Championships of the corresponding age-category or a higher age-category if the age is over the previous section limit. Those that won Gold at the previous 2025 North American Youth needs also registers with the organizers by and notifies US Chess FIDE Events Manager, Brian Yang, Click here to show email address by Friday, August 21. 2026, 5:00 p.m. CDT, to claim their Personal Right (PR) status.
