OVERVIEW
For over 25 years, International Chess Academy has been offering chess lessons, classes, and camps, as well as chess tournaments, scholastic camps, and math enrichment programs for the larger community. We are located just outside of New York City, with chess schools in both Glen Rock and Teaneck, New Jersey. Our aim of providing professional chess instruction in a nurturing environment has been a proven success for students around the globe.
Scholastic Summer Day Camps
Join us for the 25th annual International Chess Academy (ICA) Scholastic Summer Day Camp, June 16th through August 22nd in one of our two campuses, Glen Rock and Teaneck, NJ.
Our Summer Camp program offers kids ages 6-16 the opportunity to grow intellectually within a safe and fun environment. With a 6:1 ratio of campers to counselors we have a ton of fun learning chess, playing sports and competing for prizes. Campers are assigned a coach and break out into morning lessons where we solve puzzles, analyze games, and discover new ideas about our favorite game. The small groups are divided by level and age so campers can have fun and maximize their learning.
Of course, every coach brings new ideas and challenges. Last summer, many of the experienced campers impressed their friends by memorizing entire grandmaster games. Some were over 100 moves.
We also have fun outside, warming up in the morning with a camp classic dodgeball variant “Circle of Doom”, and returning before lunch to play dodgeball, soccer, or use the playground.
After lunch is the tournament. Campers compete for weekly prizes, and tournament games are often analyzed during the morning lessons.
Sometimes after the tournament campers have a chance to compete against their coaches in a simul exhibition (one coach takes on any and all challengers). On Friday, campers are paired up for the bughouse tournament.
We have a mix of other great options in the afternoon including art, music, and math. And campers compete for prizes all day.
You can register for one week or the entire ten weeks of summer camp.
Registration is open and early-bird, sibling and multi-session discounts are available. As in years past, we expect these camp sessions to fill early. Choose from Half Day Sessions (9a-3p), Full Day Sessions (9a-5p), Morning Only Sessions (9a-11a), or Afternoon Only Sessions (1p-3p). In addition, early drop-off and late pick are available as options.
We offer a 10% sibling discount, and additional discount when you sign up for 4+ weeks. Any ICA student who has attended classes or camps for 2 or more years, that would like to attend but needs financial assistance, please contact our Director to discuss additional financial aid options.
See more information about Scholastic Summer Day Camp.
