2025 North American Youth Championship Announced

Registration is now open for the 2025 North American Youth Chess Championship, which will be held August 17-23, 2025 at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario (Canada).

The age categories for the 2025 North American Youth are Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18. Each category has an Open and Girls section. For this tournament, a player's age is his or her age as of Jan. 1, 2025. This event is open to players from Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Each section is a 9-round Swiss tournament with a time control of 90 minutes plus 30-second increment per move. Round one begins on August 18. There will also be a Blitz tournament on August 21.

Medals, as well as direct FIDE titles and norms, are awarded to the top three players in each section.


Registration

Please note: Registration must be completed directly with the event organizers, not with US Chess.

Players should register with the organizers by May 31 in order to receive the lowest entry fee, though registration may be completed later until online August 14, or on-site with penalty fee until August 15-17. It is advised the earlier the better. 


Lodging/Hotel

The event will take place at the Queen's University, located at Ban Righ Hall, 10 Bader Lane, Kingston, Ontario K7L 3N8, Canada. 

Lodging is arranged directly with the hotel. It is recommended to reserve your hotel needs early, as space is limited. Please see this website, middle of the page, for all the hotel booking links and rates.

All players are responsible for their own entry fees, lodging, food, transportation, and travel costs.


US Chess Official Representatives & Personal Right Players

In accordance with US Chess Scholastic Invitational Requirements, the US Chess Official Representative in each of the 12 sections will be the player with the highest rating per the Feb. 2025 US Chess rating supplement who registers with the organizers by and notifies US Chess FIDE Events Manager, Brian Yang, Click here to show email address by Friday, May 23, 2025, 5:00 p.m. CDT. Please send a copy of your tournament registration receipt with the e-mail. 

Players who won a Gold Medal in the previous (2024) North American Youth Championships shall have the personal right (non-transferable) to participate in the 2025 North American Youth Championships of the corresponding age-category or a higher age-category if the age is over the previous section limit. Those that won Gold at the previous 2024 North American Youth needs also registers with the organizers by and notifies US Chess FIDE Events Manager, Brian Yang, Click here to show email address by Friday, May 23, 2025, 5:00 p.m. CDT, to claim their Personal Right (PR) status. Please send a copy of your tournament registration receipt with the e-mail.
