Wednesday Workout: FIDE World Rapid & Blitz, Pt. 4 (Wu & Mou)

This week's Wednesday Workout continues our series on the 2024 FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships, held December 26 – 31 in New York.

Our coverage of the rapid and blitz events focused on the winners, but several dozen Americans competed and many gained rating and delivered some nice upsets. So, we'll be taking a look at their games for the next few weeks!

This week, we focus on 19-year-old FM Rochelle Wu and 16-year-old WIM Iris Mou. The two regulars at the annual U.S. Junior Girls' Championship both posted results to be proud of in New York, with Wu going 6/11 in the Blitz and Mou going 6/11 in the Rapid. These plus-scores earned each player a haul of FIDE rating points, which makes sense if you click the above links and see the strength of their opposition! See yesterday's Tactics Tuesday for more beginner-friendly exercises from this duo's games.
