Voucher Membership Program: Revised Prices and Terms Starting September 1

The US Chess Executive Board, after consultation with the US Chess Office, announces that effective September 1, 2024, the Voucher membership program will be implementing a revised price structure and updated terms.

Pricing rates for this discounted pre-paid membership program have not been increased for several years, remaining constant even after the last membership dues change. These increases are to bring the program’s pricing to be more proportional to the current and upcoming value of the standard Youth membership price (currently $20, but will be increasing with all memberships as of January 1, 2025).

Changes are being implemented for this program quickly, as Vouchers are most commonly utilized through Scholastic programs, which operate and budget on the Academic Year calendar, and this program should as well.

Terms with updates

The age range for use of Vouchers has been clarified (ages 5 through 18, inclusive, at the time of Voucher redemption). While it has always been stated that Vouchers can be used for players in grades K-12, this definition that they can be used for individuals of certain ages is more easily understood.

The expiration date being nine months out is defined that they should be redeemed by the day before the expiration date listed on the Vouchers.

The policy of the requirement that Vouchers cannot be resold for a higher cost is clarified that an extremely small processing fee (no more than $1 per Voucher) can be added to offset costs incurred by Affiliates in the selling process (if they are purchased on a website or with a credit card processor who charges a per transaction or percentage of item price). Affiliates should not lose money by selling Vouchers, but they are expressly prohibited from selling them at a higher price than the level at which they were purchased (for example, to use as a club fundraiser).

The remaining terms of the Voucher program remain unchanged and are in the policy document on the page where Vouchers are purchased on the Affiliate Dashboard.

Thank you to all Affiliates who participate in this program and to all members who purchase Vouchers through those groups. If you have any questions about this program, please contact our Membership Department staff at Click here to show email address.
