NJSCF Organizes All-GM Round Robin for 140th Anniversary

Ten Grandmasters to Compete in Round-Robin Invitational Honoring 140 Years of Organized Chess in New Jersey

Morristown, NJ — The New Jersey State Chess Federation (NJSCF) has officially announced the grandmaster lineup for its 140th Anniversary Commemorative Tournament, taking place October 22–26, 2025, at the historic Masonic Lodge in Morristown, New Jersey.

The invitational tournament will bring together ten renowned grandmasters in a round-robin format. Over five days of elite competition, fans and players alike can expect strategic play, tactical fireworks, and a celebration of the Garden State’s distinguished chess legacy.

This event commemorates 140 years since the founding of the NJSCF in 1885, making it one of the oldest continuously operating state chess federations in the United States. The tournament celebrates New Jersey's prominent place in chess history. A state where Wilhelm Steinitz once lived, José Raúl Capablanca studied, and Emanuel Lasker visited Albert Einstein in Princeton.

The Chief Arbiter for the tournament is E. Steven Doyle, former NJSCF President, and the Chief Organizers are Aaron Kiedes and Anand Mishra, current NJSCF Treasurer and President, respectively.
