Since 1924, countries from all over the world have competed in the Chess Olympiad. The U.S. dominated in the 1930’s, but fell behind the Soviet Union during their long period of dominance from the ‘50’s to the ‘90s’s, during which the Soviets won almost every tournament.

The U.S. hasn’t won an Olympiad since 2016. This year, we are sending a powerhouse group of players to Uzbekistan to compete in the 46th Olympiad and regain our title as the best team in the world.

Our Open team includes GMs Fabiano Caruana and Wesley So from that 2016 team; the Women’s squad finished on the podium at the last Olympiad for the first time in 16 years, and returns GM Irina Krush and IMs Carissa Yip and Alice Lee from that team.

Like many U.S. teams competing internationally we are not supported by our government but through private donations, fundraising, and sponsorships, and we need your help to get these players to Samarkand.

Every dollar raised helps pay for airfare, hotels, coaching, and meals, and in the 250th anniversary year of our nation sends a signal about the importance of chess in the U.S.

Show our love of the game and our team during this seminal 250th birthday of our nation by being a part of Olympiad history and donating here.
