2019 North American Youth and North American Junior Champs Announced

The 2019 North American Junior Chess Championships will be held June 25 – 30, 2019 at the Charlotte Chess Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The age categories for the 2019 North American Junior are U20 Open and U20 Girls.  A player’s age for this tournament is his/her age as of January 1, 2019.  This event is open to players born 1999 and after from Canada, Mexico, and the United States.  This is a 9-round event with the first round on Wednesday, June 26. Medals as well as direct FIDE titles and norms are awarded to the top three players in each section.  Gold medalists receive the (W)IM title and a (W)GM norm. Registration is done directly with the organizers, and lodging is arranged directly with the hotel.  It is not required to stay at the hotels listed on the organizer’s website. Players should register with the organizers by June 1 in order to receive the lowest entry fee, however registration can be done as late as June 25. In accordance with US Chess Scholastic Invitational Requirements, the US Chess Official Representative (OR) in each section will be the player with the highest rating per the February 2019 US Chess rating supplement who registers with the organizers and notifies US Chess FIDE Events Manager Grant Oen, Click here to show email address by Wednesday, May 1, 2019.  These official representatives hotel conditions and a 50% entry fee discount if registered with the organizers before the deadline. Registration for the 2019 North American Junior Chess Championship is done directly with the organizers.  Players are responsible for their own entry fees, lodging, food, transportation, and travel.  It is not necessary to send registration details to US Chess. The age categories for the 2019 North American Youth are U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18.  Each category has Open and Girls sections.  A player’s age for this tournament is his/her age as of January 1, 2019.  This event is open to players from Canada, Mexico, and the United States.  This is a 9-round event with the first round starting on Friday, August 16. Medals as well as direct FIDE titles and norms are awarded to the top three players in each section. Registration is done directly with the organizers, and lodging is arranged directly with the hotel.  The deadline for room reservation is July 8, 2019.  Players should register with the organizers by May 31 in order to receive the lowest entry fee, however registration can be done on-site as late as August 15. 2018 North American Youth Champions (gold medalists) qualify as personal rights (PR) players, and receive 60% hotel conditions and a food package from the organizers.
