XXXIV Pan-American Youth Chess Festival Announced - Registration Information

The Confederation of Chess for Americas (CCA) and the US Chess Federation (USA) have announced the XXXIV Pan-American Youth Chess Festival will be held from July 15-20, 2024, at the Rosen Shingle Creek, Orlando, Florida, USA.

There will be 12 sections (events) in the tournament, Open and Girls for each age category: Under 18, Under 16, Under 14, Under 12, Under 10 and Under 8. A player's age as of January 1, 2024 determines their age eligibility for a section.

Players entitled to participate in each category are:

  • Under 8: Players born after December 31, 2015
  • Under 10: Players born after December 31, 2013
  • Under 12: Players born after December 31, 2011
  • Under 14: Players born after December 31, 2009
  • Under 16: Players born after December 31, 2007
  • Under 18: Players born after December 31, 2005
     

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

Each event will be a 9 round Swiss system tournament, using a time control of Game/90 minutes with a 30 second increment from move one. Direct titles shall be awarded according to the FIDE regulations. The full schedule for all rounds can be viewed within the regulations document at:

ACCOMMODATION

All participants must stay at Rosen Shingle Creek hotel by booking through US Chess; the only exemptions allowed are for those residents that reside in Orange County, Florida.

The Accommodation rate does include a choice of 1) Six nights of hotel accommodation at Rosen Shingle Creek (check in July 14, check out July 20). Or Six nights of hotel accommodation at Rosen Shingle Creek (check in July 15, check out July 21); 2) the Entry Fee to the 2024 Pan Ams (if a participant); 3) Entry fee to the 2024 Pan-Ams Blitz (Optional, and if a participant), and 4) Custom Badge Accreditation (which shall determine access to the Playing Hall, parts of the Playing Venue (particularly the dining hall), and availability of “show your badge” promotions at Rosen Shingle Creek and the Orlando area.)

The organizer offers the following accommodation options, with buffet breakfast and lunch, served in the playing venue by the chefs of Rosen Shingle Creek, from July 15, 2024, to July 20, 2024.

The following hotel rates apply to the “shoulder nights” of July 11-13 and July 20-22. These rates apply to sleeping accommodation only. These rates are for people who wish to stay in the Orlando area before and/or after the event. These nights do not include meals.

COACHING

US Chess will send coaches who would be onsite and available to players who opted to receive such services. Any player opting to receive this service can sign up at the time of registration. The fee is $1400/player.

US Chess is accepting entries for USA players up until June 21, 2024, 11:59PM Central Time USA. No USA registrations will be accepted after June 21, 2024, 11:59PM Central Time USA.

Once you have completed the form, US Chess will send you an invoice which must be paid by 6:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday, July 1, 2024 deadline via the instructions on the invoice.

The following fees will be charged:

  • Accommodation Fee – various based on room type and number of persons in the room
    • Includes Entry Fee to 2024 Pan-Am Youth (if participant)
    • Includes Entry Fee to 2024 Pan-Am Youth Blitz (if participant)
    • Custom Badge Accreditation
  • US Chess Administrative Fee - $100/player
  • US Chess Coaching Fee - $1400/player (optional)

 

A current US Chess membership through the end of the tournament (July 2024) is required for all USA participants. A USA-flagged FIDE ID is required for all USA players. If you do not currently have a FIDE ID, please complete our FIDE ID Request Form at https://forms.gle/fCCTis7WgtJEb2rv6.
 

OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVES AND PERSONAL RIGHTS PLAYERS

The US Chess Federation is pleased to announce that 12 players have qualified as Official Representatives (OR) (from the 2024 Invited Players List), and 17 players who qualified on the basis of their gold medal performances at the XXXIII Pan-American Youth Chess Festival or 2023 North American Youth Championships have earned the right to be Personal Rights (PR) Representatives of the US at the XXXIV Pan-American Youth Chess Festival.

OR and PR players receive a travel stipend and free coaching, and are reimbursed for hotel, entry fees, and administrative fees after the completion of the tournament. Said financial refunds will only be provided after the event has concluded and the player has played all rounds of the tournament without behavioral issues reports from the Chief Organizer and/or Chief Arbiter and their respective deputies.  Travel and all fees for accompanying persons are the player’s responsibility.

Please note that the organizer provided accommodation for OR and PR players is a half-room double occupancy for seven nights, from July 14 through 21. Board shall include a buffet breakfast and lunch, served July 15 through 20 inclusive by the chefs of Rosen Shingle Creek, as well as six $30 vouchers to help defray the cost of dinner. The vouchers may be presented to any restaurant on the premises of Rosen Shingle Creek.

Invoice must be paid: Friday, June 7, 2024, 5:00PM Central time

If an OR in an age category (listed below) declines to attend, then the highest rated player, according to the US Chess Feb. 2024 rating supplement, in that category who is registered by Friday, May 24, 2024, 11:59PM Central time and paid by Friday, June 7, 5:00PM Central time, will be considered the OR.

All OR and PR players who plan to attend must be registered by Friday, May 24, 2024, 11:59PM Central time and paid by Friday, June 7, 5:00PM Central time.
