XIV Continental Women's Chess Championships 2023 Announced

The XIV Continental Women's Chess Championship of the Americas 2023 will be held May 6-12, 2023 at the Habana Libre, Havana, Cuba. The event, organized by the Chess Confederation of the Americas and the Cuban Chess Federation, is open to all female American continent chess federation players.

This is an 9-round event and the time control for all games is Game 90 with +30 seconds increment starting from move 1. The Champion will qualify to the FIDE Women's World Cup of the World Championship cycle, and the prize fund is $5,500 with the top 8 finishers receiving a prize. Click here to download a PDF of the full tournament regulations.

OFFICIAL PLAYERS

US Chess will nominate three (3) Official Players who have the right to accommodation (shared double room) and full meals, at the expense of the organizer, from Saturday, May 6 at 2 p.m. until Saturday, May 13 at 12 noon. To be eligible to be one of the USA Official Players, you must register for the event (instructions below) no later than Friday, April 14, 2023, 5PM Central Time. 

The top 3 USA players according to the March, 2023 FIDE Standard Rating List, who register by the Friday, April 14, 2023, 5PM Central Time deadline, will be chosen to be the USA Official Players.

REGISTRATION

All registrations for the tournament must be submitted by national federations, it is not possible for an individual to register directly with the organizer. The registration fee for all players is $200.00. Please note there is also a $10 non-refundable administrative fee which will be added to all registrations. Interested players must e-mail Brian Yang, US Chess FIDE Events Manager at Click here to show email address for an invoice to then be paid in full by the deadline(s). The following information is needed: Full name and surname, identity document (passport number), FIDE ID, current passport size photograph, complete date of birth (in mm-dd-yyyy format), FIDE title (if applicable), Single or Double Room and how many persons in the room. This information must be corroborated upon arrival by presenting the passport or identity card for verification purposes.

The US Chess deadline for USA-flagged female FIDE players to register is April 18, 2023, 5PM Central Time (note the deadline to register to be considered an Official Player is April 14, 2023), which will enable US Chess to collect all the information required for participation by the organizer's deadline.

Refund Policy: A full refund of the entry fee will be provided, minus the administrative fee, if requested by April 11, 2023. After this date, no refund will be provided, unless the tournament is canceled by the organizers.

ACCOMMODATION

Hotel booking and payments must be made through US Chess. Hotel and airport round trip transportation will be available from the organizer at the following rates:

  • Single Room: $164/day per person, all inclusive with transfers to and from the airport included for a total of $1148 (arrival May 6, check out May 13)
  • Double Room: $125/day per person, all inclusive with transfers to and from the airport included for a total of $875 (arrival May 6, check out May 13)

All hotel and transportation payments, as well as any additional documentation requested by the organizer (identity documentation) must be received by US Chess no later than April 18, 2023, at 5PM Central Time. (For Official players, an deposit for the hotel must be included with the registration, in addition to the registration  and administrative fees to be consider as properly registered. Upon completion of the tournament by the Official player, the hotel deposit and registration fees would be refunded).

WAIVERS

While US Chess has to collect registrations on behalf of our federation and submit them to the organizer, we cannot accept responsibility for the health and well being of any players who choose to travel to this event. By participating in this tournament, the registered player and their accompanying persons assumes all risks related to international travel.
