Wednesday Workout: Pro Chess League Playoffs

Congratulations to the Gotham Knights on winning the 2023 Pro Chess League playoffs. After five weeks of regular season play (covered here and here), the top eight teams advanced to a single-elimination knock-out tournament. The Gotham Knights and Shanghai Tigers met in the finals, with Gotham winning the 16-game match by a three-point margin. The fight for third place was an all-India affair, with teams MGD1 and falling to the Indian Yogis.

The rapid time control of ten minutes for the game with two-second increment per move not only generated lots of dramatic moment, but some great tactics puzzles as well. So, this week's Workout draws entirely from last weekend's playoffs. Solve for yourself along with our embedded Lichess study below, or download our printable bulletin to work out the solutions on your own.
