Wednesday Workout: Lee and Yip atop Cairns Standings After 7 Rounds

This week's puzzles all continue our series from the still-in-progress 2025 Cairns Cup (preview here, recap here). For more puzzles, also check out yesterday's Tactics Tuesday worksheet from this same event.

With two rounds to play, American IMs Carissa Yip and Alice Lee join India's GM Humpy Koneru atop the standings with 4½/7 scores. Today, Yip has the black pieces against IM Bibisara Assaubayeva, while Lee has White against GM Harika Dronavalli. Then, it's Yip – Lee in Thursday's final round. The stakes couldn't be higher: in addition to the $250,000 prize fund, both Lee and Yip can earn GM norms with scores of 6/9 or better. 

Games begin today and tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. CDT in St. Louis, and are broadcast live (with a 30-minute delay) on the Saint Louis Chess Center's YouTube channel.
