US Chess is pleased to announce seven grant awards under the US Chess Women’s program. With support from the Saint Louis Chess Club, US Chess annually offers grants to nonprofit affiliate members who are promoting programs that support women and girls in their respective communities. The 2023 grant recipients are:

§  Berkeley Chess School (Berkeley, California)

§  Chess in the Schools (New York, New York)

§  Chess Through Challenges (The Bronx, New York)

§  FEMchess (Fremont, California)

§  Hampton Roads Chess Association (Virginia Beach, Virginia)

§  Indermaur Chess Foundation (Raleigh, North Carolina)

§  Royal Oak Initiative (Columbus, Ohio)

As these activities occur throughout the year, look for stories on CLO about their work and impact. This year’s grantees represent a wide range of activities for both women and girls.

According to US Chess Executive Director Carol Meyer, “These grants amplify the work that our affiliates are doing all over the country. We are so proud of these efforts by the grassroots chess programs to sustain and nurture the interest of women and girls in chess. These types of partnerships strengthen our community and are central to the US Chess mission.”

These grants are part of a larger program initiative to elevate women and girls in chess and are funded by a grant from the Saint Louis Chess Club.
