US Chess Seeks Graphics Assistant in Communications Department

The US Chess Federation is accepting applications for the position of Graphics Assistant, a part-time position within US Chess. The Graphics Assistant will work within the Communications Department, reporting directly to the Art Director, to advance the US Chess Mission via our website, social media platforms, and print publications.

Job Type: Non-exempt

Department: Communications

Hours: Part Time, 20-25 hours/week

Location: Telecommuting based in Crossville, TN

Reports To: Art Director

Overview

The Graphics Assistant provides support to the Art Director in the production of all print and digital items within our Communications Department. This includes: 

Print Publications

·       Chess Life (monthly)

·       Chess Life Kids (bi-monthly)

·       Annual Report (annually)

·       Delegates Call (annually)

·       Tournament Programs (4 annually)

Digital Assets

·       Chess Life Online

·       Social Media

·       Email blasts

Primary Relationships 

The position reports to the Art Director and works under the AD’s direction.

 

Typical Duties 

·     Prepares files for various publications, using templates to convert Word documents into InDesign layouts

·       Vets advertisements from clients – reviews submitted artwork to ensure technical accuracy

·       Assists in the review, editing, and finalizing of press-ready files for print

·       Creates and updates various internal documents, data files, and advertisements

·       Creates website, social media, and print graphics utilizing templates or instructions that align with the US Chess brand

·       Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

 

·        Creative Design Experience

·        Knowledge of basic design principles

·        Excellent organizational skills

·        Editing skills and a good eye for detail

·        Strong research skills

·        Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook) experience

·        Ability to manage multiple projects with concurrent deadlines

·        Commitment to working with cross-functional teams

·        Strong oral and written communications skills

 

Other

 

·        Basic understanding of the game, culture, and literature of chess is a plus

·        Bachelor’s degree in graphics design or similar or current student in a degree program

 

This is a part-time position with flexible hours but focused around Central Standard Time.  This is a telecommute position.
