US Chess is excited to announce the inaugural National Puzzle Championship! US Chess has partnered with ChessKid to bring scholastic players the first ever National Championship event for puzzle solving. The National Puzzle Championship will be held on-site at SuperNationals VIII in Orlando, Florida on Thursday May 8, 2025. The event will be co-organized by US Chess and ChessKid.com. Online registration will be open until 1 p.m. EDT on Thursday, May 8. You can register here for the main event and puzzle championship.

The National Puzzle Championship will be separated into two divisions: grades K-6 and grades 7-12. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers in each section, including the title “National Puzzle Champion.”  Participants will compete onsite in real time via the ChessKid platform. ChessKid staff will facilitate the puzzle solving. Additionally, FM Mike Klein, a.k.a. “FunMaster Mike” will act as a special master of ceremonies.

While entrance into the main event at SuperNationals is not a requirement for entry, all participants must have a current US Chess membership to compete in the National Puzzle Championship. The same eligibility requirements set forth for national events also apply. Consult section 4 of the Scholastic Regulations for full details on player eligibility. ChessKid usernames will be given to participants on-site for use in the competition.

Sign up today and we’ll see you in Orlando!
