Tactics Tuesday: Cherry Blossom Classic

This week's puzzles come from the 12th Cherry Blossom Classic, which was featured in our Memorial Day wrap-up. While the later rounds of competitive opens usually feature the most level match-ups — with top grandmasters going at it for a shot at the biggest prizes — the early rounds of these tournaments often produce the best material for learning tactics. We've all had the experience of holding on for a while against higher-rated players before blundering a tactic. These tournaments allow us to see what types of mistakes strong players make when competing against even stronger competition.
