During the holiday period, US Chess announced our revised Safe Play Policy that went into effect on January 1, 2024. The US Chess Executive Board expanded the scope of the Safe Play Policy “to all US Chess rated tournaments and sanctioned activities and events.”

Recognizing the tremendous growth in online chess, US Chess is reaching out to online chess websites to work with us to keep chess safe and welcoming for all players. Chess.com was the first to respond:

"Chess.com appreciates the efforts by the US Chess Board and the executive team to implement impactful policies and procedures to make chess safe and welcoming for all players." - CEO Erik Allebest

"Safe Play is critical and applies to both online and over-the-board rated events," said Danny Rensch, CCO of Chess.com "We (Chess.com) are actively working with US Chess to fight for more safety, inclusion, and protections for everyone in the chess community in the events we host on our site."

US Chess members are encouraged to visit the Safe Play Hub to learn more about our Safe Play Policy and how to file a report. Additional resources will be added soon to assist our tournament directors and organizers to more fully understand mandatory reporting requirements. As a reminder, all certified US Chess tournament directors must complete SafeSport training by June 1, 2024.
