In Her Own Words: US Chess Girls Club Members on Women in the Game

Members of our girls club have been active not only in studying and practicing the game, but also in writing about chess.

One member, high school sophomore Liora Ginzburg, the Southern California representative at the Haring Tournament of State Champions, wrote about gender dynamics in chess for the Oracle, her school's newspaper.  Liora's nuanced piece includes some great quotes and observations, including.

"Within society as a whole, people tend to pay more attention to the way a woman looks. In keeping with making progress towards making chess tournaments a better environment for girls and women, it is important to value women for their ability and not just their appearance." Two members of Girls Prep in New York, part of the Chess-in-the-Schools network, Itzel Lopez & Londyn Malcom, interviewed Jennifer Shahade for their own newspaper. You can find the entire newspaper here.
