Communications Department Transitions

US Chess announces two changes to the Communications Department. As of August 17, Dan Lucas will no longer be our Senior Director of Strategic Communication. Effective immediately, JJ Lang has been promoted from Digital Assistant to Digital Editor. 

Dan Lucas has been with US Chess for almost 19 years, beginning as Director of Publications in 2005. Lucas was editor of Chess Life and Chess Life Kids magazine for over 12 years, and was promoted to Senior Director of Strategic Communication in 2018.

Beginning August 19, he will take over as Vice President at Kid Chess, a Metro Atlanta chess teaching company. Dan's impact at US Chess cannot be overstated, and he will be dearly missed. US Chess wishes him well with his next endeavor!

JJ Lang has been with US Chess as Digital Assistant since October 2022, and has been full-time since last January. As Digital Editor, Lang will now oversee content on Chess Life Online in addition to his previous duties. This news comes on the heels of Lang being awarded Chess Journalist of the Year by Chess Journalists of America. The Digital Editor will report to the Executive Director.
