2022 North American Junior Championships Announced

The 2022 North American Junior Chess Championships, Open U-20 and Girls U-20, will be held December 1-6, 2022 at the Del Prado Hotel (Salón Montenegro), in Av. Marina Nacional 399, Verónica Anzures, Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico City. The event is open to players aged under 20 as of January 1, 2022, (must be born in 2002 or after) representing Canada, Mexico or the United States.

This is a 9-round event with the first round on Friday, December 2. Medals as well as direct FIDE titles and norms are awarded to the top three players in each section. Gold medalists receive the (W)IM title and a (W)GM norm and the complete list of titles and norms to be awarded can be found in the event regulations.

OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVES

In accordance with US Chess Scholastic Invitational Event Requirements, the US Chess Official Representative (OR) in each section will be the player with the highest rating per the February 2022 US Chess rating supplement (regular rating) who registers with the tournament and notifies US Chess FIDE Events Manager, Brian Yang, brian.yang@uschess.org by Friday, October 28, 2022, 12:00PM Central USA time. The US Chess ORs will have the right for accommodation and meals in the official hotel, starting from lunch on December 1 and ending with breakfast on December 6.

REGISTRATION

Registration for the 2022 North American Junior Chess Championships is done directly with the organizers and should be done by October 28, 2022, to pay the lowest entry fee. Players are responsible for their own entry fees, lodging, food, transportation, and travel. Interested players will need a letter from US Chess to properly register; to obtain this letter, please send the request with the player's name and FIDE ID # to brian.yang@uschess.org. Complete information and registration can be found at the organizer’s website. Although the organizers will accept registrations until November 30, 2022, (and technically onsite entry on December 1, 2022, at the playing venue from 12:00 to 20:00), US Chess urges all interested players to register early.
