XXXIII Pan-American Youth Chess Festival Announced - Registration Information

The Confederation of Chess for America (CCA), The Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation, and US Chess Federation have announced the XXXIII Pan-American Youth Chess Festival will be held from August 11 – 18, 2023 at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, USA. This is the first time the event is being held in the United States of America

There will be 12 sections in the tournament, Open and Girls for each age category: Under 18, Under 16, Under 14, Under 12, Under 10 and Under 8. A player's age as of January 1, 2023 determines their age eligibility for a section.

Players entitled to participate in each category are:

  • Under 8: Players born on or after 1 January 2015
  • Under 10: Players born on or after 1 January 2013
  • Under 12: Players born on or after 1 January 2011
  • Under 14: Players born on or after 1 January 2009
  • Under 16: Players born on or after 1 January 2007
  • Under 18: Players born on or after 1 January 2005

 

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

Each event will be a 9 round Swiss system tournament, using a time control of Game/90 minutes with a 30 second increment. Direct titles shall be awarded according to the FIDE regulations. The full schedule for all rounds can be viewed at the event's website https://panamyouth2023.com/

 

ACCOMMODATION

All participants must stay at the official hotel, the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place or the Marriott Marquis Hotel. The Hyatt hotel rate is $195 per night plus tax, single-quad, and the Marriott Marquis rate is $200 per night plus tax, single-quad. Both Hotels are connected to the playing site. Food is not included in the hotel rate. 

 

COACHING

As part of our delegations to such events, US Chess offer virtual coaching, available to players who opted to receive such services. Any player opting to receive this service can sign up by e-mailing Brian Yang, FIDE Events Manager, at brian.yang@uschess.org . The coaching fee is $1400/player. Coaches will provide pre-game preparation and post-game analysis on an 1-on-1 basis. 

 

REGISTRATION - DEADLINE IS JULY 11 for lowest entry fee; LAST DEADLINE is August 12, onsite. 

Registration is done directly with the organizers, not with US Chess. Players should register with the organizers by July 11 to receive the lowest entry fee, however registration can be done onsite as late as August 12.

A current US Chess membership through the end of the tournament (August 2023) is required for all USA participants. A USA-flagged FIDE ID is required for all USA players. If you do not currently have a FIDE ID, please complete our FIDE ID Request Form at https://forms.gle/fCCTis7WgtJEb2rv6.

In accordance with US Chess Scholastic Invitational Requirements, the US Chess Official Representative (OR) in each of the 12 sections will be the player with the highest rating per the February 2023 US Chess rating supplement who registers with the organizers and notifies US Chess FIDE Events Manager Brian Yang, Click here to show email address by Friday, June 2, 5:00PM CST. USA players who earned gold medal at the XXXII Pan-American Youth Chess Festival or the 2022 North American Youth Championships have earned the right to be Personal Rights (PR) Representatives of the US at the XXXIII Pan-American Youth Chess Festival. All OR and PR will be eligible to receive free accommodation for 7 nights starting August 11 from the organizers - double occupancy, those who want single occupancy may pay the difference.
