XVI Continental Chess Championships 2023 Announced

The XVI Continental Chess Championship of the Americas 2023 will be held May 14-24, 2023 at the Hotel Emotions Juan Dolio, Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic. The event, organized by the Chess Confederation of the Americas and the Dominican Chess Federation is open to all American continent chess federation players.

This is an 11-round event and the time control for all games is Game 90 with +30 seconds increment starting from move 1. The top 4 finishers will qualify to participate in the FIDE World Cup and the prize fund is $20,000 with the top 20 finishers receiving a prize. US Chess will nominate three (3) Official Players who have the right to accommodation (shared double room) and full meals, at the expense of the organizer, from dinner on Sunday, May 14 to breakfast on Wednesday, May 24. To be eligible to be one of the USA Official Players, you must register for the event (instructions below) no later than Wednesday, April 12, 2023, 5PM Central Time. 

The top 3 USA players according to the March, 2023 FIDE Standard Rating List, who register by the Wednesday April 12, 2023, 5PM Central Time deadline, will be chosen to be the USA Official Players.


All registrations for the tournament must be submitted by national federations, it is not possible for an individual to register directly with the organizer. The registration fee for all players is $200.00. Please note there is also a $10 non-refundable administrative fee which will be added to all registrations. Interested players must e-mail Brian Yang, US Chess FIDE Events Manager at brian.yang@uschess.org for an invoice to then be paid in full by the deadline(s). 

The US Chess deadline for USA players to register is April 28, 2023, 5PM Central Time (note the deadline to register to be considered an Official Player is April 12, 2023), which will enable US Chess to collect all the information required for participation by the organizer's deadline.

Refund Policy: A full refund of the entry fee will be provided, minus the administrative fee, if requested by April 21, 2023. After this date, no refund will be provided, unless the tournament is canceled by the organizers.


Hotel booking and payments must be made by the individual players and their accompanying persons. Hotel and airport round trip transportation will be available from the organizer at the following rates:

  • Single Room: $147 per night all inclusive
  • Double Room: $122 per night all inclusive
  • Airport Pickup/Drop Off: $80 per person, Airport - hotel - airport from Las Americas Internationals Airport; $200 per person from the Punta Cana International Airport.

Players must stay at the official hotel or else they would need to pay a penalty to the organizer of $125 per the event regulations; US Chess is not responsible for this fee regarding staying at an off-site hotel. 


While US Chess has to collect registrations on behalf of our federation and submit them to the organizer, we cannot accept responsibility for the health and well being of any players who choose to travel to this event. By participating in this tournament, the registered player and their accompanying persons assumes all risks related to international travel.
