Welcome Pete Karagianis, US Chess Assistant Director of Events
US Chess is pleased to announce Pete Karagianis as its new Assistant Director of Events.
Pete is 34 years old, and hails from Bloomington, Illinois. His background includes time spent
as a player, director, educator, administrator and author.
Pete has been a tournament player since the age of six and has played over 400 tournaments
while amassing the National Master (2005) and Original Life Master (2010) titles. Pete’s
background in chess education began in 2006. Since then, he has worked with thousands of
students in the Bloomington-Normal area through teaching, organizing tournaments and
conducting chess camps. His chess writing has included contributions to Chess Life, En
Passant (Iowa state publication), Oklahoma Chess Quarterly and Illinois Chess Bulletin.
Pete’s calm demeanor, high energy and capable articulation will be valuable assets. He looks
forward to sharing his vision of a quality event – a vision born from both his passion for the game
and his wealth of experience within US Chess. We are happy to have him as part of our team.
