SuperNationals Registration is Open!

US Chess is excited to announce that registration is open for SuperNationals VIII, to be held in Orlando, Fla., May 9-11, 2025.

In recent months US Chess has initiated changes to the entry fee structure for our national events, and with SuperNationals we are instituting a change in how tournament hotel rooms are blocked and booked.  This change is a response to a shift in the hotel and meeting industries' approach to cancellation penalties since 2021.  (See the October 2024 issue of Chess Life for a fuller discussion on why this change is necessary.)

These changes are significant, so please read the following to the end.

Different hotels have different policies, so be aware before booking a room. Here is what you need to know.

ROSEN CENTRE, ROSEN PLAZA

For hotel reservations made through Feb. 7, 2025, at the Rosen Centre and Rosen Plaza

To book one to nine rooms, reservations may be made via the custom booking link or by calling the reservation desk.  Each reservation must be guaranteed by major credit card. On Feb. 7, 2025, the full amount of the reservation (inclusive of fees and tax) will be charged to the card. All reservations charged as of that date will be considered guaranteed and the amount charged will not be refundable. Reservations cancelled before the charge date will result in no charge to the card on file, and the room will be returned to the group's inventory. If the card on file cannot be successfully charged on Feb. 7, 2025, the reservation will be considered cancelled and handled the same as a formally cancelled reservation. 

To book a block of 10 or more rooms, you must first email US Chess at Click here to show email address. The email should include: the name of the group, the desired hotel, the desired number of rooms, the check-in and check-out dates, and contact information (name, email, phone) for the responsible party making the reservation for the group. After US Chess validates the information, the reservation details will be sent to the hotel from US Chess and the hotel will contact the group directly to finalize the reservation.  (Attempting to book a group reservation directly with the hotel will not work.) Each group reservation will be guaranteed by major credit card. At the time of booking with the hotel, one night's charges (inclusive of fees and tax) will be charged to the card on file for the group reservation. This one-night charge will be considered guaranteed and the amount charged will not be refundable.  If the card cannot be successfully charged at the time of booking with the hotel, the entire group reservation will be considered cancelled and the room(s) will be returned to the group's inventory. 

All hotel reservations after Feb. 7, 2025, at the Rosen Centre and Rosen Plaza

These reservations can be made via the custom booking link or by calling the reservation desk. Each reservation must be made with a major credit card, which will be charged the full amount of the reservation (inclusive of fees and tax) at the time the reservation is processed.  After the charge is confirmed, the reservation will be considered guaranteed and the amount charged will not be refundable.

HYATT REGENCY ORLANDO

For hotel reservations made through Feb. 7, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Orlando

To book one to nine rooms, reservations may be made via the custom booking link or by calling the reservation desk.  Each reservation will be guaranteed by major credit card.  On Feb. 7, 2025, the full amount of the room and tax charges on the reservation will be charged to the card.  All reservations charged as of that date will be considered guaranteed and the amount charged will not be refundable. Reservations cancelled before the charge date will result in no charge to the card on file, and the room will be returned to the group's inventory. If the card on file cannot be successfully charged on Feb. 7, 2025, the reservation will be considered cancelled and handled the same as a formally cancelled reservation.

For reservations made after Feb. 7, 2025 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando

These reservations can be made via the custom booking link or by calling the reservation desk.  Each reservation will be made with a major credit card, which will be charged the full amount of the reservation (inclusive of fees and tax) at the time the reservation is processed.  After the charge is confirmed, the reservation will be considered guaranteed and the amount charged will not be refundable.

Optional resort fees and parking charges

The Hyatt Regency Orlando has a $25 optional resort fee. This fee covers several amenities, but you may opt out of it if you wish.  The Hyatt also has self-parking and valet parking.  Neither the resort fee nor the parking charges are part of the room deposit.  When you check in, you may advise the front desk whether you want the optional resort fee, and whether you intend to park with the hotel.  The hotel will then secure payment for those desired services directly.

HILTON ORLANDO

For all reservations (regardless of date) made at the Hilton Orlando

For individual reservations of one to nine rooms, reservations may be made via the custom booking link or by calling the reservation desk.  Each reservation must be guaranteed by a major credit card. At the time of reservation, the full amount of the reservation (inclusive of fees and tax) will be charged to the card. All reservations charged as of that date will be considered guaranteed and the amount charged is non-refundable. If the card on file cannot be successfully charged as of the time of reservation, the reservation will be considered cancelled and handled the same as a formally cancelled reservation. 

For group reservations of 10 or more rooms:  The Hilton Orlando is not accepting group reservations.
