Effective April 16, Bryon Doyle will be the new FIDE Events Manager for US Chess. Bryon is a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a combat medic. Bryon comes to us by way of the Berkeley Chess School, where he ran and organized many events.

From his staff bio: "I became enamored with chess in high school when I visited our local chess club and played GM Igor Ivanov. In our first game he checkmated me in just 11 moves! I studied vigorously after that loss to hopefully one day beat him.

"I joined the U.S. Army as a combat medic when I was 17 years old (delayed training). In 2009 I became a Tournament director so my hometown of St. George could have US Chess rated events. I also wanted to play in the rated events myself.

"I enjoy teaching chess and instilling my love for the game for the next generation of players. I achieved the National Master title in 2015 and the FIDE Arbiter title in 2018. I currently live in St. George, Utah."

Boyd Reed, our Director of Events, says, "I’d like to thank Chris Bird for his outstanding efforts as FIDE Events Manager. Chris will still be the incumbent through April 15, although Bryon’s start date was officially April 4.  There will be a transition period while Bryon gets up to speed on the job. However, I have every confidence that Bryon will soon be putting his own stamp on our FIDE activities."
