Irina Krush and her Masterclasses: From the Sicilian to Leko

Grandmaster and seven-time US Women's Champion Irina Krush was our most recent guest on Ladies Knight, where she spoke about her chess business, GM Chess, her own training philosophy and her recovery from COVID. This fall, she has been extremely active in top player coaching as a host and a teacher. In October, her company, GM Chess is offering a Top Player workshop series, including a session with Grandmaster Peter Leko on October 10th, National Chess Day. Find more details on her website,

She also treated our girls club to a two part Sicilian series, which is now available on our US Chess channel for all to enjoy.

In part I, she showed a typical Sicilian sacrifice with ....Rxc3.

The second part was even more complex, where she showed how a counter-intuitive ...g5 paved the way for a dynamic victory. Both examples came from computer games. As she explained on Ladies Knight, "computer games almost invariably contain something extremely instructive, something deep and something that kind of reveals the essence of chess."
