IM Norm Tourney Underway at University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley

The 2017 University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley’s Spring Break IM-norm tournament is currently underway in Brownsville, Texas. Follow along on the tournament website and find live games and video streaming here. The diverse field includes players from Canada, Colombia, Cuba, France, Paraguay, USA, and Venezuela.

  1. How could that tournament possibly have been strong enough to be capable of producing norms? Based on the ratings shown in the crosstable, to get a 2450 FIDE performance, someone would have needed to score at least 7 points out of 9 (maybe even 7.5 or 8 out of 9).

Or have the criteria to earn a norm been weakened since last time I checked?
