Greece, “Amazing So Far” as 29-Player Delegation Begins Battle for Medals

29 young Americans are battling in Halkidiki, Greece at the World Youth in six sections, Open and Girls in Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18.   Among the contenders: last year’s gold medalist in the Open Under 12, Vincent Tsay.

Tsay won his first game on the Black side of a c3 Sicilian. His opponent misplayed a promising attack on move 24, where the immediate 24.Bxf5!, followed by Nh4 was strong.

Also playing: the youngest National Master in US Chess history, Abhimanyu Mishra. Abhi, who is still only nine years old, also won his first game in the Open Under 14.

Two Sigma is the team sponsor, and provided the snazzy jackets. Thanks to US Chess FIDE Events Manager, Grant Oen for the pictures. Grant confirmed that the pictures and not deceptive, and Greece is indeed, amazing so far.
