The Baltimore Kids Chess League at the National High School Championship

US Chess is committed to growing the game for all. To this end, we have put in place an initiative to assist players from Title I schools to be able to attend our national events and compete against schools and players they might not otherwise ever have a chance to. One such group came to our 2022 National High School Championship (NHS): The Baltimore Kids Chess League (BKCL).

In the video at the end of this article, US Chess interviews some of the BKCL team members who attended the NHS in Memphis, Tennessee, held from April 8-10, 2022, thanks to a generous donor who provided the funds that helped the group make the trip. We asked the players what chess--and attending a national championship event--has meant to them. All of the individual interviews within this video have been separated out into their own uploads, easily found in the "Baltimore Kids Chess League" playlist on our US Chess YouTube channel.
