Alejandro Ramirez Leading Stacked National Open

Going into Saturday’s games, Grandmaster Alejandro Ramirez is leading a stacked National Open. After five rounds, the SLU coach had a perfect 5-0, including a quick victory against GM Aleksey Sorokin of Russia.

Also close to the top of the leaderboard (four points after five rounds): GMs Lazaro Batista Bruzon, Igor Kovalenko, Illia Nyzhnyk, Timur Gareyev, Arturs Neiksans, Fidel Corrales, Ruifeng Li and Evgeny Shtembuliak.

Big upsets so far include Annie Wang’s victory over four-time U.S. Champion Alexander Shabalov.
