Northern Virginia Open FIDE Blitz

Hotel & Playing Site: Same as the Northern Virginia Open (see separate TLA). 

Format: 4 Double-Rounds, Swiss System. Open Section is FIDE and US Chess-rated, U1600 Section is US Chess-rated. Everyone plays 2 games per round (1 game as White, the other as Black). Time Control is Game-in-5 minutes, no time delay or increment. 

Sections: Two Sections - Open and Under 1600. No unrated players in the Open Section. 

Ratings for Sectioning and Prizes: We will use the higher of your over-the-board and online BLITZ ratings from the November 2021 US Chess Rating Supplement. For players without Blitz ratings we will use the higher of your over-the-board and online Regular or Quick ratings.

Entry Fees: $35 through Tues 11/16; $45 beginning Wed 11/17 and onsite. Current US Chess membership required, available onsite or at www.uschess.org.

Registration: Online at www.vachess.org or onsite 4-6:30PM Fri 11/19. Players not registered for Blitz by 6:30PM risk not being paired for Round 1.  Pairings will be posted at 6:45PM.

Prizes: Based on 25 players.
-- Open Section (1st-3rd): $190, $95, $55; Top U1800 $50
-- Under 1600 Section (1st-3rd): $180, $90, $50; Top U1000 $40

Schedule and Time Controls:
-- Round 1 at 7PM Friday Nov 19th.  Rounds 2-4 as soon as possible.
-- Players not present within 5-min after the start of a round will be forfeited for both games of that round and will not continue in the tournament without the Arbiter's permission.
