A VCF Cup Event -- VCF membership is required for Virginia players.  Join or renew at www.vachess.org.

Hotel & Playing Site: Hyatt Place Virginia Beach Town Center, 335 Independence Blvd; Chess Rate for lodging is $85 + taxes for a single king or $95 + taxes for a double queen room (higher floor rooms $10 more), must reserve by January 21st. Games will also be played at the adjacent Mid-Atlantic Chess Center (walk across the parking lot), located at 291 Independence Blvd, Suite 515, Building 4 in the Pembroke office park

Format: 5 Rounds, Swiss System (5SS). All games are US Chess-rated.  One half-point bye if requested prior to the start of Round 3

Sections: Open, Under 1600, and U1000.  No unrated players in the Open Section. 

Ratings for Sectioning and Prizes: We will use your Over-the-Board regular rating from the February 2022 US Chess Rating Supplement.

Entry Fees: Open and U1600:  $70 through Sat 1/29; $85 beginning Sun 1/30 and onsite; U1000:  $20 through Sat 1/29; $25 beginning Sun 1/30 and onsite

Prizes: 
-- Prizes based on 60 entries in the Main Event (Open and U1600)

-- Open Section (1st-3rd): $800, $500, $300; Top U1800 $100
-- Under 1600 Section (1st-3rd): $700, $400, $200; Top U1200 $100, Top Unrated $100; Unrated winning a place prize limited to $250.

-- U1000:  Trophies to top 5 overall, Top U800, Top U600, and Top Unrated. Medals to other participants with even or plus scores

Schedule and Time Controls:
Open and U1600

-- Sat Feb 5: Round 1 at 10AM (G/75 + 10), Rounds 2 and 3 at 2PM and 6:30PM (G/90 + 10)
-- Sun Feb 6: Rounds 4 and 5 at 10AM and 2:30 PM (G/90 + 10)

U1000 (G/40; d5)

-- Sat Feb 5 ONLY: Rounds at 10, 12, 2, 4, and 6

COVID protocols:  Masks are required at the board / in the playing hall and Skittles at all times.  Supplies available to sanitize equipment.

Blitz Side Event:  Friday night 6 PM, 4 double rounds, EF $25 through Sat 1/29; $30 beginning Sun 1/30 and onsite.  Cash prizes based on entries.  Register separately online at Coastal Virginia Open Blitz (https://www.kingregistration.com/event/CVOBlitz)
