2022 Maine Scholastic Team Chess Championships

GENERAL INFORMATION

• 12 March 2022, Lewiston High School, 156 East Ave, Lewiston, ME 04240
• US Chess rated - A Maine Scholastic Grand Prix & Maine Grand Prix event.
• US Chess Junior Grand Prix points available.
• Four-round Team* Swiss in three sections: HS (9-12), MS (6-8), ES (K-5)**.
• Non-scholastic Sidekick Quads: Suggested entry fee donation benefits the Scholastic Chess Fund: $20.
• Registration and round start times staggered by section.
• Pre-register at https://www.chessmaine.org/play/event-registration

*Any player may play in a section above their grade level only to complete a full roster for that section.

**Class prizes will also be awarded to the three highest placing K-3 teams.

HIGH SCHOOL SECTIONS - US Chess Junior Grand Prix points available

• Championship Section:

  • 5-board match-play Swiss. Board order determined by US Chess ratings.

  • Time control: G/61;+5.

  • Winning team receives the George Cunningham Trophy (High School).

• Reserve Section

  • Team-restricted Swiss. Top three players per team combine for team score.

  • Time control: G/61;+5.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SECTION (6-8)

• Team-restricted Swiss. Top five players per team combine for team score.
• Time control: G/45;+5.
• Winning team receives the George Cunningham Trophy (Middle School).

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SECTION (K-5)

• Team-restricted Swiss. Top five players per team combine for team score.
• Time control: G/30;+5.
• Winning team receives the George Cunningham Trophy (Elementary School).
• Class prizes will also be awarded to the three highest placing K-3 teams.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• This is a Maine Scholastic Grand Prix (SGP) event. No entry fees are charged for K-12 students.
• US Chess memberships are provided for players who have registered for the SGP before the deadline.
• Non-scholastic Sidekick Quads will run concurrently with High School Sections.

  • Registration: 8:00am - 8:45am
  • Round Times: 9:00, 12:00, 2:15, 4:30
• Middle School
  • Registration: 8:45am - 9:15am
  • Round Times: 9:30, 11:45, 1:30, 3:15
• Elementary School 
  • Registration: 9:15am - 9:45am
  • Round Times:10:00, 11:30, 12:45, 2:00

Concessions are available onsite: All proceeds benefit the Lewiston High School Chess Club.
