Event Overview

The Tulane Chess Club and Downriver Chess invite you to a two-day classical event with $2,000 in prizes!

Tournament details: Five round, two-section, swiss system, G/60;i30, USCF classical-rated tournament. Top section FIDE-rated. Blitz side event on day two.

Prize fund: $2,000 in prizes. Total prize fund b/80 with 50% guaranteed. $300 to be added to the prize fund and split evenly among sections for every 10 players above 80.

FIDE: Open section is FIDE-rated and directed according to FIDE rules. Players should familiarize themselves with the most common FIDE rules differences.  FIDE membership required for the open section. FIDE membership is free if you already have a USCF membership. We will need additional information from you at checkin if you do not have a FIDE ID.

Class prizes: Class prizes to be determined by official September USCF rating. 100 elo added to provisional ratings. Unrated players are prize eligible in U1800 class and open section. If a player does not have a regular rating their quick rating will be used. Only players in the open section are U1800 class prize eligible.

Prize Structure:
Open section: 1st $800, 2nd $400
U1800 class: 1st $350, 2nd $150
U1400 section: 1st $200, 2nd $100

Venue: The Qatar Ballroom, on the second floor of the Lavin-Bernick Center at Tulane University. 29 McAlister Drive, New Orleans, LA. 

Byes: Two half point byes are available upon request. No bye requests shall be made after round three other than for emergency situations.

Parking: Parking permits are not required in most parking zones on Tulane University campus during the weekend. For ease, we recommend using the Diboll Garage. Diboll Garage is a short walk from the Lavin-Bernick Center and has plenty of space available for our attendees. Consult the annotated parking map here.

Eligibility: $55 early entry fee if purchased by 9/14/24. $60 standard entry fee if purchased by 9/19/24. $75 same-day entry fee. Capacity limited to the first 120 players, please pre-register to guarantee your slot. At least 20 entries to be held for same-day registration. Current USCF membership required.

Blitz event: 7 round, G/5;d2 blitz event available on Sunday at 10:00 AM. Open, swiss system. Class prizes for open and U1400. 70% of total entry fees returned as prizes, 40% for open and 30% for U1400. $20 entry. USCF rated only.

Student discount: University students may receive $10 off the entry fee by using the code UNISTUDENT.
