Thanksgiving Blitz! - 59th American Open Blitz Tournament

A. Schedule & Location

• Saturday night, November 30, 2024
• First Round: 9:30 pm; Last round around 11:30 pm
• Location: Hyatt Regency Orange County 11999 Harbor Blvd. Garden Grove, California 92840 (click here to map)

B. Tournament Format:

• 5 rounds of double games (Swiss-Sys Format) - Players will play TWO games in one round: against the same opponent with alternating colors.
• Time Control: G/5+0 (Game in 5 minutes with no delay or increment.)
• Games will be US Chess blitz rated.
• Sections TBD depending on the number and ratings of the players
• Maximum one half-point bye allowed

C. Registration:

• Entry Fee: $50 advance registration by November 15; $60 by November 24 ($70 onsite; discounted for players of the Main Event)
• $5 admin fee for cancellations & refunds.

• Awards: $1,000 Prize Fund Guaranteed! Medals and trophies for winners.
• Players must have an active US Chess Federation membership.
• Players are encouraged to bring their tournament regulation-size chess set and clock. 

The American Open Blitz tournament is a Side Event of the 59th American Open Chess Championship. The American Open runs on Thanksgiving week from Tuesday, November 26 to Sunday, December 1. There is the Main Event where chess masters will play (Tues-Sun), the Scholastic tournaments for players in K-12th grade (Fri, Sat, Sun), chess camp (Tue, Wed), and Action Chess (Sun)
