TCA REGION III SCHOLASTIC CHAMPIONSHIP 2026

USCF-rated Texas Chess Association Region III Scholastic Championship, 2026 — 5-Round Event. Eligible players must be K-12 students who reside in or attend school within the Region III counties (Dallas, Collin, Ellis, etc.) to be eligible for regional titles. Any Texas resident may participate; however, players must follow grade-level eligibility rules. Playing up a section is allowed, but playing down is not permitted to ensure that regional champions accurately represent Region III.

Texas Region III Champion TITLE for 2026 will be awarded for the first place winner for each championship sections. The winners will also be eligble for 2026 Texas Chess Association Junior Invitational https://texaschess.org/2025-2026-invitationals-policy

Round 1 starts at 9:00 am, remaining asap.

Time Controls:

              G30;d5 (30 mins with 5 Secs delay)

              High School Championship

              Middle School Championship

              MS/HS U1000 (Under 1000)

              K-5 Championship

              K-5 U800 (Under 800)

              K-3 Championship

              K-3 U500 (Under 500)

              K-1 Championship

* Sections may be merged or split based on the participations.

Entry Fee:

  • $35 Early Bird Entry Fee, if registered on or before Dec 27, 2025
  • $45 Regular Entry Fee.
  • $55 Late Entry Fee, if registered after Jan 24, 2025.

Awards:

  • Texas Regional III Champion Title for each Championship sections: Primary (K-3), Elementary (4-5), Middle School (6-8), and High School (9-12). Armageddon playoff will be conducted if we have two players tied for first place.
  • Regional Title winners will be eligible for 2026 Texas Chess Association Junior Invitational https://texaschess.org/2025-2026-invitationals-policy
  • Trophies to Top 5 Individuals for each section.
  • Trophies to Top 2 Teams for each section. The team should be your current school's name

Byes:

  • Up to one- 1/2 point byes allowed for any round except for the last round. Bye has to be requested before the end of round 2.
  • Zero-point bye/withdraw has to be requested before the section pairing is done.

Withdrawals/Refund:

  • Any withdrawals before the tournament incur a $10 processing and transaction fee. No refund for withdrawals on the last 2 days.

More Details:

  • Jan US Chess ratings and rules will be used for pairings and awarding prizes.
  • Chess board and pieces will be provided. Bring your own chess clock.
  • Unrated players will be placed at TD’s discretion.
  • No Spectators allowed in tournament area.
  • The players should not eat at the chessboard during the game. Only soft drinks/water is allowed at the chess board.
  • All non-essential communication devices must be powered off completely while inside the playing hall (not just on silent) and must remain in the player’s bag or face up on the table. Devices must remain at the board during game play. Penalties up to or including loss of game and removal from the tournament for violations of this policy.
  • Only US Chess approved electronic notation devices are allowed.
  • Notation required for MS/High School Championship sections.
