Boards and pieces will be provided. Please bring a clock if you have an extra one.
FORMAT
The Tar Heel Open is a three-round US Chess quick/regular rated tournament. The tournament will be paired using the Swiss System.

REQUIREMENTS
Participants must be members of the US Chess Federation and must be a full-time student at NC State, Duke, or UNC Chapel Hill. If you don’t have a USChess ID (USCF), you can create one here, or we can assist you with creating one on-site. Registration will close once the tournament reaches 48 participants.

Under 1000*
The Monthly US Chess Supplement Ratings will be used for all players.
*Sections may be adjusted closer to the tournament date to ensure a more balanced distribution of participants.
TIME CONTROL
G/45; increment 10 (each player receives 45 minutes plus a 10 second increment to complete each game)
ROUND TIMES
Round 1: 10:30 AM
Round 2: 1:00 PM
Round 3: 3:30 PM
PRIZES
Open: 1st place $40, 2nd place $20, 3rd place $15
Under 1000: 1st place $40, 2nd place $20, Best Unrated $15.
*Prizes are subject to change based on number of entries. (guaranteed prize fund equal to 50% of the total profits generated from entry fees)
ENTRY FEE
$10.00 if pre-registered by 8:00 PM EST of March 21, 2025. On site registration is $15.00 before 10:15 a.m. on the date of the tournament. Please send the payment to Naveen Prabhu via Venmo @Naveen-Prabhu-1

WITHDRAWAL
Please email aachugh@unc.edu if you wish to withdraw from the event. Refunds will be granted if withdrawal is requested before March 21st at 8:15 PM.
