Event Overview
Official Tournament on Sunday, July 11, at 2 PM Eastern Time (1 pm CT, 12/noon MT, or 11 am PT), and an optional practice tournament on Saturday, July 10, at the same time.
-
This tournament will use Swiss pairings.
-
The time control will be game in 25 minutes with a 5-second increment. There will be four rounds. Rounds will be held at 2 PM, 3 PM, 4 PM, and 5 PM Eastern Time. The tournament will last for approximately 4 hours.
-
There will be two sections: Open and Under 700. These sections are determined by over-the-board USCF-regular rating. For example, a player with a rating of 1000 would belong in the Open section, and a player rated 600 would belong in the Under 700 section, and so forth. Unrated players can play in any section, and rated players may “play up” into a higher section. If you don't know which section you belong in, feel free to contact us.
-
This event will be rated under the USCF online regular (slow) rating system. The tournament will be run on our Chesslang platform at https://classroom.startrightchess.com.
-
Within 24 hours of signup, you will receive an email with information for logging into our Chesslang platform and playing in the tournament.
-
Participants must join the tournament Zoom with video on as a condition for participation. This may mean that you will have to use a second device to join our Zoom meeting with video on. Chesslang has a built-in engine for detecting cheating, and we will do a post-tournament fair-play inspection. If a participant's account is flagged for cheating by Chesslang, we may submit the player's games as losses for USCF-rating purposes or annul the games.
-
Standings will not be finalized until after fair-play review.
-
This tournament is open to children age 17 and under.
-
All participants must be active members of the US Chess Federation. If your child does not have a current USCF membership, please sign up or renew here: https://new.uschess.org/become-member (if you are unsure, please check the status of your membership at https://new.uschess.org/player-search.)
-
Players can withdraw from the event at any time by notifying the Tournament Director (TD).
-
Prizes: $25/$15/$10 cash prize for top 3 finishers in each section. Top 5 finishers in each section also will receive two free days of Start Right Chess Summer Camp!
-
