Open Section:

  • 1st Place: $120, 2nd Place: $80

  • Top U1700: $50

U1400 Section:

  • 1st: $80, 2nd: $40

  • Top U1100: $30

Special Prizes:

  • Top Unrated: Free Entry to 1-day Central PA or Frederick, MD tournament


Tournament Format: G/35 ; + 5, 4SS (Game in 35 with a 5 second increment. 4-round Swiss).

Please bring your own sets and clocks if able.

 

Schedule:

Round 1: 11:00am (tournament starts promptly. We recommend players arrive by 10:45am)
Round 2: 12:30pm
Lunch Break: 2:00pm (Chick-Fil-A and convenience store IN BUILDING)
Round 3: 2:30pm
Round 4: 4:00pm
Prizes given out by 5:30pm (ASAP)

 

ENTRY FEE:

  • Early Bird Discount Entry: $15 if registered by Saturday, Feb. 22nd
  • Regular Entry: $20 if registered by Thursday, Feb. 27th
  • Late Entry: $30 if registering AFTER Thursday, Feb. 27th but before March 1st
  • Same-Day Entry: $40 if registering on-site, the day of the tournament. (please arrive before 10:30am if registering the day of)
  • Can't pay electronically but want to register early? You may send checks/cash in the mail. Email tournament director Nathan Zeigler at shippensburgchess@gmail.com for address. Electronic payment is preferred for advanced registration.
  • FOR NEW PLAYERS: Unrated player entry fee is $5
  • Refund Policy: Full Refund Amount until morning of the tournament. As long as you email the director at Click here to show mail address your withdrawal before March 1st, you will receive a full refund.  If withdrawing on March 1st before tournament starts, $5 deducted from refund. NO refund after tournament starts.

NEW UNRATED POLICY:

Unrated players are not eligible for the 1st place prize in the U1400 section. If you are a strong unrated player, we encourage you to play in the Open Section. The only prize unrated players are eligible for in the U1400 section is the 2nd place prize.
Unrated players in the Open section are eligible for the 1st place prize and the 2nd place prize, but not the U1700 prize.

Don't want to pay for an annual membership? Players may opt to pay a one-time $10 fee to play in one tournament.

  • 408 Lancaster Dr, Shippensburg, PA 17257
  • Room 119 in the Ceddia Union Building in Shippensburg University
    • If you enter from the side with UPS, you will have to take the stairs/elevator one floor up
  • Free parking: Park in the C-7 parking lot (link to parking map: https://www.ship.edu/globalassets/visit/parkingmap.pdf)
    C-7 is the lot opposing Luhrs Performing Arts Center. That will provide a good landmark.

A day prior to the event, we will email all registered players a detailed guide on how to get to the playing hall. Not sure if you're on the email list? Email shippensburgchess@gmail.com.

1/2-point byes: One available per player. In comments/questions section of the registration form, please note which round you would like a 1/2 point bye.

On-Site Registration: If you do not want to register in advance, please arrive by 10:30am to the playing hall.
