Event Overview

Join us for a Saturday morning of rapid chess at the Downtown Manchester YMCA! Sharpen your skills in a quick, 3-round mini-tournament. Players will be grouped into "quads" of four, matched with others of similar playing strength based on their USCF rating, guaranteeing a competitive and fun experience.

Event Details

  • When: Saturday, October 4th
  • Time: 9:00 AM
  • Location: Studio A, 2nd floor, Downtown Manchester YMCA
  • Format: Quads (groups of four). Each player will play one game against the other three players in their group.
  • Time Control: G/15;+10 (15 minutes per side with a 10-second increment).

Registration and Age Requirements Advance registration is mandatory. Sign up online at the link below or in person at the YMCA front desk.

  • All ages are welcome.
  • Kids 12 and up may attend unsupervised, but their parent or guardian must create an account on the YMCA website and sign a digital waiver beforehand.
  • Kids 11 and under must be supervised by a parent or guardian for the duration of the event.

Schedule

  • 9:00 AM: Check-in, setup, and puzzle discussion.
  • 9:30 AM: Check-in closes and quad groups are finalized. Players must be checked in by this time to be paired.
  • 10:00 AM: Round 1 begins.
  • 11:00 AM: Latest start time for Round 2.
  • 12:00 PM: Latest start time for Round 3.
  • Note: Note: all rounds may begin earlier if all members of a quad group are present and ready to play. Players shall have at least a 10-minute break between rounds.

Entry Fee:

  • $10 for non-YMCA members.
  • Free for Granite YMCA members.

Prizes:

  • Each quad champion wins a $20 prepaid debit card.
  • USCF membership is required to be eligible for a prize. Unrated sections may be formed for non-members of USCF, but those players are not eligible for a prize.
  • Tie-Breaks: The Sonneborn-Berger method will be used to break ties.

What to Bring:

  • We encourage you to bring your own chess board and clock, though some spare equipment will be available to borrow.
  • Snacks are available at vending machines, or you can bring your own.
