Pop Up Quads in Bel Air at Emmorton Rec Center

Format:            3 round Quads See below for a description of a Quad event.

Time control:   G/60+30 – This will feel like a G/90 time control

Prizes:             $60 for 1st in each Quad $60 for 1st & $30 for 2nd in a Swiss

Entry fee:         $20

Round 1:          9:00 - 12:00 Round 2:          1:00 - 4:00 Round 3:          4:30 - 7:30 If players agree, rounds can start early. 

Quad Chess Tournament Format:

  1. Registration: After registration, players are sorted by rating, from highest to lowest.
  2. Grouping: Players are then grouped into sets of four.
  3. Round Robin: Each group of four players participates in a round-robin style tournament, where every player faces each other.
  4. Adjustment for Non-Multiples of 4: If the total number of registrations is not a multiple of 4, a separate three-round Swiss tournament is organized for the bottom 5 to 7 players.

More information:

  • A valid US Chess Membership is required!  Please make sure your membership is up to date!
  • In case of a problem, stop your clock and get a tournament director.
  • Clocks should be set to silent.
  • Players may start their round early if both players agree.
  • Start your round on time even if your opponent is not present.
  • Players must keep score (write down their moves) throughout the entire game.
  • The Festival at Bel Air is a short walk from our site and has many lunch & coffee options.  You can also find other nearby fast-food options. 

Anti-Cheating Measures:

  • You are required to use the provided score sheets.  You can transcribe your game to your score book later if you choose. 
  • Electronic devices must be off and not on your person. 
  • Electronic score sheets are not permitted.
  • During play, players may not leave the tournament site (i.e. the building).  If you need to leave the building during your game, first get permission from a tournament director.
