DeVaughn Croxton is a proud product of Detroit, Michigan and joined US Chess in January 2024. Though a competitive athlete, his most powerful muscle proved to be his brain, something he began to discover when he became an active chess player in 2006 and played board #1 and captained his high school team. The team won their 2010, 2011, and 2012 district tournaments. At one state championship, DeVaughn received a gold medal and at one National High School Championship his team placed 13th and he placed in the top 20 in Bughouse.
After high school, DeVaughn attended Michigan State University where he studied physics. He combined his strengths in research and education to study the process of learning and how the brain functions. Inspired to learn and do more for his community, he completed a master’s degree in educational psychology in May 2023.
DeVaughn’s passion and goal is to help people develop into stronger thinkers. Whether through chess, education, or psychology, he helps people build stronger minds. DeVaughn is also the author of the children’s book The Wild Crocodile and a co-host of the podcast “Talkin’ Bout Us.” Outside of work, DeVaughn enjoys movies, music, and spending quality time with family.
