Danial Wilson joined US Chess in June 2026, working as the Ratings Manager and assisting with memberships among other responsibilities. He brings more than a decade of experience in chess education, tournament directing, event management, and organizational leadership.
Danial started playing chess competitively in 8th grade and continued competing through college. He then went on to become a scholastic chess coach, tournament organizer, National Tournament Director (NTD), and FIDE Arbiter. He has dedicated time to working with chess nonprofits such as the Chicago Chess Foundation and The Illinois Chess Association, where he served as president from 2025 - 2026 and focused on growing participation and enhancing opportunities for players throughout the state of Illinois.
Danial is excited to join the US Chess team as the Ratings Manager. "Chess has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember. All of my time spent learning the game, going to tournaments and later on teaching chess to students of all ages, I am amazed by how much chess has shaped mine and many others' lives," Wilson said. "The game of chess has taught me from a young age to focus on the task in front of you, have the patience to wait for the right opportunities, and how to solve problems both easy and hard, even under time pressure."
