Join Pawnstormers at beautiful Maumee Valley Country Day School for the inaugural Toledo Open! If you've played in our Sunday Scholastics, competed in a Monday Night Swiss, or are a veteran of the legendary Toledo Swiss tournaments, you'll fit right in at the Toledo Open. And if you've never played in one of our events—or have never played in a rated tournament at all—we'd love to have you, too. The Toledo Open is for everyone, from first-time tournament players to experienced competitors. This is not a scholastic tournament - anyone with a U.S. Chess membership is is eligible to register!
Details:
Doors Open: 9:30 a.m.
Format: Four-round Swiss; one half-point bye in Rounds 1-3 is available with advance notice to tournament director.
Round Times:
Open: 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m.
Under Sections: 10:30 a.m., then ASAP for Rounds 2-4
Sections: Open, U1400, U800. Players will be divided according to their published US Chess ratings. Additional sections may be added at the Tournament Director's discretion. Players may request in advance to "play up," subject to a minimum rating requirement.
Time Control: G/50, d5 (50 minutes per side with a five-second delay before the clock starts each move)
Entry Fee: $25 through October 10, then $30 through October 20, then $35
All youth players must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the tournament.
Chess sets will be provided, but players must bring their own clocks and know how to operate them.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in the Open section. Trophies will go to the top finishers in the Under Sections.
