DMV Chess online winter camp is back for 2023! We’re proud to have taught over 500 kids in our online camps since COVID. The format for this winter’s camp will be similar to the camps we ran this summer, except camp will last for three days instead of five. Camp will run from Wednesday, December 27th through Friday, December 29th. We have two camp options: regular camp and advanced camp. The advanced camp will be taught by GM Aleksandr Lenderman (Wikipedia).

Our camps are held via Zoom and lichess.org. Camps are open to all students of all skill levels in grades K through 8 as of the 2023-2024 academic calendar. Students from anywhere in the world can participate. We’ll do the best we can to make sure each camp group is large enough for campers to have a fun social experience but still small enough that each student gets personal attention from the instructor. All instructors are guaranteed to be USCF National Masters or Experts with USCF ratings above 2000. Our advanced camp is taught by GM Aleksandr Lenderman. All our camps feature USCF-online-rated games, so please make sure your child is a member of the US Chess Federation (we can help you sign up).

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ADVANCED CAMP AND REGULAR CAMP

The advanced camp is designed for students rated between 900 and 1600 USCF. The regular camp is designed for all students below 900. Depending on attendance, groups for the regular camp can be divided based on rating with grade level being a secondary factor.

Students who are lower than 900 may be allowed to join the advance camp at our discretion, but we would not necessarily recommend that they do so. The advanced camp is not better than the regular camp—it just targets a different rating range. All instructors for the regular camps will be experienced chess coaches, either USCF experts or masters. Advanced material will still be covered in the regular camp.

PRICING

Each 3-day online camp costs $180 (regular camp) or $225 (advanced camp), but there are two discounts available. We have a $30-per-child early-registration discount for anyone who registers by December 3rd. There is also a sibling discount of $30 off per child (e.g. $60 total off for two siblings). These two discounts can be combined.

If your child cannot attend the full camp, we may be able to offer half-day schedules or single-day options at a reduced price, depending on how much space is available. To inquire about this please email us at Click here to show mail address.

Each day of camp begins at 11 am ET and ends at 5 pm ET. Please refer to the sample camp schedule below for a rough outline of what a typical day of camp may look like. This schedule may vary slightly from camp to camp, as each class will have its own unique group of kids. If you have any questions, please email us at Click here to show mail address.
