Event Overview
The OKC Speed Chess Challenge
This tournament is day one of a Weekend Special event that includes a five-round Freestyle (Fischer-Random/960) tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Format
Morning: Five double rounds, G/3;+2 (affects blitz rating only)
Afternoon: Five rounds, G/15;+5 (affects quick rating only)
Sections & Prizes
Open, Reserve (U1500). Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each section. Trophy for top U1000 in the Reserve.
US Chess regular rating (May 2025) used for pairings in both events.
Schedule
- 7:00 café opens. Play a few games over coffee or breakfast in the café. (Need to borrow a set? Ask at the counter.)
- 9:00 Doors open (upstairs). Onsite registration for blitz ends at 9:30; for quick, 12:30 p.m.
- 10:00 Blitz round one. Subsequent rounds ASAP with awards & lunch break following the last round.
- 1:00 Quick round one. Subsequent rounds ASAP with awards following the last round.
Entries
- $25 entry
- $15 Half day only (blitz or quick)
- $35 Weekend Special! This tournament + OKC 960 (Sunday afternoon)
- DISCOUNTS - MUST ENTER BY MONDAY, MAY 26
- Seniors (65+), full-time college students, or anyone registering with a sibling: $20 for this tournament; $30 for Saturday & Sunday. (ENTER BY 5/26)
- FREE entry to players rated 2000+ (ENTER BY 5/26)
- FREE entry to new players who purchase their US Chess memberships and register before the deadline (5/26)
Tiebreaks
For first-place ties only (includes top U1000), G/5;d0 blitz tiebreaks will be used (with armageddon rounds if necessary); mathematical tiebreaks for all others.
