Event Overview
MSJE 2025 Hanlu Monday Night Marathon is a USCF-rated tournament for all members of MSJE Chess community.
Hanlu, also known as Cold Dew, is the 17th of the 24 solar terms in the Chinese lunar calendar.
Date: Monday, Sep 22, 2025 - Monday, Oct 13, 2025
Rating: USCF Dual-Rated
Eligibility: The tournament is open to MSJE students, parents, and alumni. Players must have current US Chess Federation membership. Expiration date of their US Chess membership must be later than the last day of the tournament.

Tournament Format: Swiss System
Total Rounds: 4
Time Control: G/25;+5 (game in 25 minutes with a 5-second increment with each move. This means you get 25 minutes, your opponent gets 25 minutes, and with each move players get 5 seconds added to their clock.)
Round Times: 9/22 6:40pm, 9/29 6:40pm, 10/6 6:40pm, 10/13 6:40pm
Sections: 400+, Under 400
US Chess rating will be used for section determination and pairings. Pairings are based on the September 2025 regular supplemental regular US Chess rating.
MSJE Chess Team reserves the right to update any details of this event (including but not limited to sections, time control, round times, etc.) as we get closer to the event date to ensure an excellent tournament experience for players.
Parental Guidelines:
- Non-playing parents are kindly asked to drop off and pick up their children. Only players and tournament staffs are allowed to remain inside MUR while games are in progress. Thank you for your understanding.
Tournament Rules:
- All US Chess tournament rules apply.
- The tournament director's decisions are final.
- Notation is required, per MSJE Chess Head Coach's policy.
Bye Request:
- Maximum two half-point byes are available upon request. Please submit the request of half-point bye by 7pm Sunday before the Monday round.
Equipment:
- Chess sets will be provided.
- Please bring own notation sheets and pencils.
