Tournament Overview

The King’s Land Chess First Foster City OTB Rated Tournament is an officially rated US Chess event designed for players of all levels. It offers a competitive yet friendly environment where students can challenge themselves and grow through real over-the-board experience.

Seats are limited. Early registration is strongly recommended to secure your spot.

Parental Guidelines

Parents are kindly requested to drop off and pick up their children before and after the event.
To ensure a focused tournament environment, parents are not allowed to remain in the playing area.

Tournament Details

Date: Sunday, November 2, 2025
Time: 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM (Check-in by 9:15 AM)

Entry Fee

  • $50 per player (non-refundable and non-transferable)

No-Show Policy

Players who fail to attend without prior notice will be suspended from future KLC tournaments for two months.

Time Control & Format

  • Time Control: G/30; d5 (Game in 30 minutes with a 5-second delay; each game may last up to 1 hour.)
  • Rounds: 3 rounds total (same time control for all rounds)
    • Beginner Section may include 4 rounds if time allows.

Schedule

  • Round 1: Begins at approximately 9:40 AM (please arrive by 9:15 AM)
  • Subsequent Rounds: Begin on a rolling schedule after each round finishes
  • Estimated End Time: 1:00 PM
  • Pick-up Time: 1:00 PM

Bye Requests

One ½-point bye may be requested at least one day before the tournament.

Rating & Eligibility

  • Players are grouped and paired based on official USCF ratings.
  • “Playing up” to a higher section is not allowed.
  • Unrated players will receive an estimated rating assigned by the Tournament Director.
  • Current US Chess membership is required to participate.

Tournament Rules

  • All US Chess Federation rules apply.
  • The Tournament Director’s decisions are final.
  • Notation: Required for players rated 300+ (per Coach Kiki’s policy).
  • Electronic Notation Devices: Only US Chess-approved devices are permitted.

Equipment

  • Chess sets and clocks will be provided by King’s Land Chess.
  • Players may bring personal scorebooks; scoresheets and pencils will also be available on-site.
