Event Overview

The American Open Scholastic Tournaments runs concurrently with the Main Event of the 59th American Open. It has three divisions: Novice, Junior Varsity (JV), and Varsity, which occurs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the Thanksgiving weekend. The Scholastic tournaments are open to all players in kindergarten to 12th Grade.

Additionally, during the Thanksgiving week of the event, there will be a chess camp on Tuesday and Wednesday, Grandmaster Lectures, and panel sessions for players and parents.  

 

The Junior Varsity (JV) Tournament is five rounds and are one-day tournaments. 

JV Saturday is for players in K-5th grade, while JV Sunday is open to K-12th grade.

Players have to play both days: Saturday and Sunday.
