HCC November U1200 Beginner Open;  (Friday evening-$300 in prizes, b/20; plus trophies & medals)

DATE & TIME:   November 20, 2026  Round 1 at 6:00PM, Subsequent rounds ASAP 
LOCATION:  Play More Chess Academy, 1227 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06517
TIME CONTROL: G/25,d5   Tournament is expected to finish by ~8:45pm with a brief awards ceremony.
EVENT FORMAT/SECTIONS:  Only open to beginning players (any age).  New Unrated USCF members (without a USCF rating) or USCF members with rating U1200
BYES:  No byes permitted as this a three round tournament.  All participants are expected to complete all of their games (three rounds)
ENTRY FEE: $30-45  (Discounts for early entry and for Hamden Chess Club members); $30 (additional $10 for non-HCC members) by 11:59 Tuesday prior; Then $40 all players through Thurs 11:59PM; thereafter $45 until 11:00AM Saturday (day of tournament two hours before Rd. 1).
PRIZES:  $300 based on 20 players;  $150-$100. Top Female: $50.  Trophies: Top U900, Top U600, Top Unrated;  choice of chess medals available players not receiving the above.  Any Unrated player is limited to $100 prize (balance of any limited prize goes to next eligible player(s)). Top Female prize can go to unrated player.

ENTRY DEADLINE:  Early entry discounted fee deadline: Tuesday 11:59PM (Tuesday before tournament);  Regular entry deadline: Friday, 4:00PM (day of tournament- 2 hours before Rd 1).  No on-site registration.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:  All players must be current members of US Chess to register for this tournament (go to USCHESS.org to join or renew your USCF membership/membership ID number.  Hamden Chess Club Affiliate ID # is A6054128 for HCC to receive credit.  Must register for HCC tournaments in advance - first registered, first served  (space is limited).  Chess sets, DGT3000 clocks and scoresheets provided. No need to bring anything-must use our chess sets and clocks.
